BANKS Walter Newman 2nd Corporal Royal Engineers 244906 DIED Penistone 1916 Aged 43. Born  16/10/1873 Holbeck Baptised 09/03/1874 at Beeston Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. Son of Kirkby and Margaret Ellen Hudson Married 1860 Kirkstall Registered Building. Husband of Martha Keightley Married 07/04/1878 Wesleyan Methodist Chapel Dewsbury Road. Landed France 05/10/1815. Died Silkstone Camp left £1,650.00 to Martha residing at 21 Dawson Road. Laid to Rest Holbeck Cemetery Leeds. BIRKETT Horace Drawary Acting Leading Stoker K/11086 Royal Navy HMS Ardent KIA 01/06/1916 Aged 26. Born Holbeck 15/06/1890. Son of Remarried Mrs Clara Clayton 4 Harner Street Brook Street Selby. Leeds in the Great War. No CWGC Record of Birkett.

BOOTH John Sapper Lance Corporal 108898 Q Special Company Royal Engineers DIED 06/08/1917 Aged 38. Born 1880. Son of James and Annie CWGC/Enlistment 17 Temple Crescent Beeston Hill. Enlisted 08/12/1915 Aged 35 and 5 Months Occupation Builder Religion Wesleyan. Yorkshire & Lancashire Regiment 2091 Attached to 173rd Tunneling Company. Landed France 21/09/1916. Admitted to 64th Casualty Clearing Station 02/08/1917 Captain J. Ramset stated that cause of death was Bonchil Pneumonia (Spanish Flu?)

BOWER Frank Brownhill Pioneer 106587 5th Motor Bn Special Brigade Corps of Royal Engineers DOW 08/08/1916 Aged 21. Born Hunslet 1895. Son of Joe Brownhill and Elizabeth Sarah Elizabeth Hollingworth Married 1877 Oldham. 1911 Wedfield Cross Flatts Grove Beeston. Enlisted London. Laid to Rest Blighty Valley Cemetery Authuille Wood France.

BOYD Thomas Ripley Gunner 42445 3rd Bde Canadian Field Artillery 21/04/1916 Aged 33 Attended Leeds Boys Modern:1894-1896.Born 03/05/1883 Holbeck. Son of Thomas a cloth finisher and embosser Born Leeds 1844 and Sarah Ann Sykes Born Leeds 1850 Married 1869 Leeds. After leaving Leeds Boys Modern Thomas emigrated to Toronto Canada in 1904 and started a business as a plasterer in the firm of Boyd and Colisham. Thomas enlisted into the Canadian expeditionary Force at Valcartier 03/09/1914 16 km from Quebec joining the 9th Battery Canadian Field Artillery having previousley served for three years in the Boar war. At his medical Thomas is described as being 5ft 7 inches tall, with a dark complexion black hair Grey eyes with a chest size of 37 inches. Thomas arrived in England in November 1914 and after training was sent to France in February 1915. He fought at Ieper and Festhubert and it was said that he fired the first shot at Neuve Chapelle. Thomas was recommended three times for honours for as what was described as, "faithfull and Gallent service" Thomas lost his life in April 1916 at Reninghelst near Poperinghe Belgium where it was reported he was Instantaneously Killed by a German shell. Remembered Leeds Boys Modern. Metropolitan Wesleyan Methodist Church Toronto.

CLARKSON Arthur Private 43560  1/4th Bn Yorkshire Regiment DOW 10/04/1918 Aged 18. Born Leeds 1900. Son of Robert John and Ann Paul Married 28/07/1894 All Saints Leeds. 1911 Residence 17 West Mount St Beeston Hill.

DEDMAN Reginald Victor Private 3811 1st Bn Northumberland Fusiliers KIA 16/06/1915 Aged 20. Born Leeds 1895 Vol 9b Page 458. Son of Herbert and Eleanor Webster Married 1898 St Clement Sheepscar. CWGC 211 Beeston Road. 1911 25 New Scarborragh Beeston Hill. Landed France 18/12/1914. Laid to Rest Kemmel No.1 French Cemetery Belgium.
