Leeds District 1974 

The following section gives a link to websites documenting men remembered on World War One War Memorials for those Towns and Villages that they were outside the district of Leeds during the Great War. In 1974 they were amalgamated into the Leeds Metropolitan District and given a Leeds postcode. Today we are proud to have these areas under our City's name. However back in 1914 you would scoff if you were told Thorp Arch, Horsforth, Rothwell were part of Leeds. Below can be seen the district of Leeds 1914-1921

ABERFORD

A village 12 miles to the East of the City Centre it has the LS25 postcode. 

Barwick-In Elmet 

A village 7 miles east of the City Centre it has the LS15 postcode. Fellow researcher Nigal Marshal has documented  the 16 men from the village who gave their lives in WW1.

 BOSTON SPA 

A village 13 miles north east of Leeds City centre 3 miles from Wetherby it has the LS23 postcode. The following site remembers those men who gave their lives from the village.

MORLEY 

A town 6  miles from Leeds with a LS27 postcode.  Wakefield Family History Sharing remembers men from the town. 

ROTHWELL

A market town 5 miles south east of Leeds with a LS22 postcode. Wakefield Family History Sharing remembers men from the town. 

SAXTON  

A village with a LS24 postcode. 

SCHOLES

A village 6 miles East of Leeds City Centre with a LS15 postcode. The sister site to Nigal Marshall Barwick-in-Elmet site, it remembers the 14 men from the village who gave their lives in WW1.

TADCASTER

Today my home town it is 14 miles east of Leeds. I first researched the site back in 2002 and many of the surrounding towns and villages on the website have Leeds postcodes.
